An Unusual Early 19th Century Treen Lighting Device

Probably made for use on a desk, or writing table, the candleholder is mounted on the end of a hinged arm, which swivels from a pivotal point at the top of the well-turned column, in order to achieve the best position for the light.

The turned base is weighted to counter-balance the candle when the arm is extended.

English, fruitwood, possibly apple, circa 1800-1820.
